Police in Uasin Gishu County have launched a manhunt for a teacher alleged to have defiled a 14-year-old girl on Saturday.

The deputy head teacher is accused of defiling the Class Eight girl last weekend before disappearing.

Eldoret East OCPD Richard Omanga, who confirmed the incident, told the Nation on phone police are following crucial leads to find the suspect.

“We have serious leads to arrest the suspect and we are likely to him find soon. We have already compiled the file and have sufficient evidence to take the suspect to court,” Mr Omanga said on Friday.

Mr Omanga said after they were informed of the incident by the public, they took the candidate to hospital.

The OCPD said the girl was traumatised by the alleged incident but is in stable condition.

A teacher who requested anonymity claimed that suspect allegedly tricked the girl and another boy from the same school that he was taking them for a trip.

He then drove them to a secluded place on the Uasin-Elgeyo Marakwet.

“The teacher picked the girl from Kapsoya Estate with the boy . . . he asked the boy to alight along the way before committing the act in his vehicle,” said the teacher.

Uasin Gishu County ward representatives Belinda Tirop and Jeruto Barbengi visited the school and called for speedy arrest of the suspect.

Ms Tirop urged parents to be constantly in touch with their children to avert such incidences.

“As parents, we must know what our children are doing as well as their friends. When a child is away for more than two hours you must where they are,” said the MCA.

Last month, residents of Baringo Estate in Eldoret town woke up to a rude shock following the defilement and murder of a five-year-old girl. No one has since been arrested.
