Police reservist, four civilians killed in banditry attack

A National Police Reservist and four civilians, among them three primary school boys, have been killed in a banditry attack in Baringo South.

The Thursday 3am attack in Kapindasim is suspected to have been carried out by armed criminals from the neighbouring Pokot community.

The attackers made away with an unknown number of livestock. They are said to have driven the livestock towards Karau in the neighbouring Tiaty sub-county.

The bandits descended on two manyattas where herders camped with hundreds of livestock.

ARMED BANDITS

Baringo County Police Commandant Robinson Ndiwa said locals responded and a fierce exchange of fire ensued between the bandits and police reservists.

"It is unfortunate that one NPR and four locals were killed in the process. The criminals made away with unknown number of livestock," said Mr Ndiwa.

He added: "Our security personnel are pursuing the armed bandits."
