Tharaka-Nithi County procurement director Lawrence Mutembei has been arrested for allegedly receiving a Sh40, 000 bribe from a supplier in order to pre-qualify him.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Eastern region official Ignatius Wekesa said that Mr Mutembei was arrested on Thursday at his office in Kathwana.

"We gave one of the suppliers treated notes and immediately he received the money, our officers stormed the office and arrested him,” said Mr Wekesa.

He said Mr Mutembei tried to throw the money when he saw the officers but it was too late.

Mr Wekesa said the officer will be arraigned in court to face bribery charges.
