A multi-million shilling private hotel was on Tuesday opened in Mandera Town in a bid to attract investors.

The Red Sea Resort now increases bed capacity in the town from 200 to 750 since the start of devolution, a fact governor Ali Roba said will now enable his government host an investors' conference.

The county had earlier failed to host the conference due to lack of adequate accommodation facilities for the expected guests.

A statement from the county's communication office said the Red Sea Resort is the sixth of its kind in the town in a span of two years.

"The challenge is up. I want to say for those who understand the real meaning of business opportunities, Mandera will provide the support in line with the theory of first-mover advantage. Persons who come in first will reap maximum benefits out of business opportunities that exist within Mandera County," Mr Roba said.

He said that the county was now more confident than ever to hold the investors' forum.

"We are speaking of 750 beds now up from only 200 before the county government " he said.

Trade executive Abdiaziz Sheikh said the private sector in the county is "picking (up) faster than expected".

The construction of a five star hotel is currently ongoing in the county.

Other projects that are ongoing are the construction of the county headquarters, the governor's residence and a stadium.

"The 25 km tarmac road project within Mandera town is even making the business sector grow bigger each day," the statement said.

The tarmac road is the first of its kind in the vast county since independence.
