Three people have died after the Mutonga quarry at the border of Tharaka-Nithi and Meru counties caved in.

Another person was rescued with injuries and rushed to hospital.

Red Cross officials and the police rushed to the scene of the Tuesday morning incident and started rescue efforts.

A resident, Charles Mugendi, told the Nation that an unknown number of people were cutting stones when the walls of the quarry collapsed.
