Teachers and students in Nandi who excelled in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams will be given laptops by the county government.

Governor Cleophas Lagat said yesterday the county government will fulfil a promise it made last year to reward teachers whose subjects scored A and students who obtained A with laptops.

Dr Lagat said he made the promise when he met with school heads and students in various schools and would personally deliver the laptops.

“For Nandi to maintain top position in both the KCSE and KCPE examinations, the county government will each year provide laptops to top students and teachers,” he said.

“I want to work with school heads, education stakeholders, students and parents to ensure that in 10 years, the least educated person in Nandi County will have a form four certificate,” he said.

Dr Lagat pledged to invest the lion’s share of the county budget on education and appealed to parents to provide equal opportunities for both boys and girls.

The governor spoke as students and teachers at Kapsabet Boys High School sang and danced with joy in the streets after the school was ranked fourth nationally in the KCSE exam results.

Kapsabet Boys principal Kipchumba Maiyo and Kapsabet Girls High’s Susan Chelanga led hundreds of students in the singing and dancing.

Mr Maiyo said Kapsabet Boys had 79 As  and 100 A- with a mean score of 10.9 from 250 candidates while Mrs Chelanga said her school had a mean score of 9.2.

Mr Maiyo said his school, which was ranked number 13 last year, made a huge improvement this year after it posted the best result ever produced by student at the school.
