A section of Wajir ward representatives have protested over unexplained two-months pay delay for county staff.

Addressing journalists, the ward reps claimed the delay has affected businesses and marriages of affected staff.

Bute MCA Issa Adan demanded an immediate report from the county government by end of week but when reached for comment by Nation, Governor Mohamed Abdi said the workers will get their salaries on Monday.

Mr Adan said they would call for demonstrations if the issue is not resolved.

“Wajir County is a credit-worthy institution and thus there are many ways the county can get money while waiting for release of funds from the national government,” he said.

His Malkagufu colleague Mohamed Abdulla, who also serves as the vice chair of the Labour Committee claimed that some county ministers moved their offices to Nairobi while the residents continue to suffer.

“We are aware that most of these CECs [County Executive Committee members] are nowhere to be seen since they are operating from Nairobi and thus [we] want them to return to the county and explain to us why the salaries have been delayed,” he said.
