Gang shoots, injures 4 in botched Mombasa robbery attack

Four people are nursing bullets wounds after being shot at by robbers in Majengo, Mombasa.

The four, who work at a second hand clothes shop, were shot at in the botched attack which happened around 1pm Friday.

The injured were rushed to Mewa Hospital for treatment as the attackers fled on a motorbike.

“Three attackers shot in the air before shooting at the workers who were in the shop before fleeing,” an eyewitness told the Nation at the scene.

The robbers took a briefcase full of receipts with them. Police have launched a manhunt for the four.

The attack happened, as three youth suspected to have attacked and injured nineteen-year-old Abdallah Mbarak on Thursday night at Buxton, Mombasa, were arrested.

TONONOKA

Tononoka area Chief Mwinyi Abdulaziz said the suspects were arrested at their hideout within Buxton area.

Mr Abdulaziz said two more suspects, who injured Mr Abdallah, are being sought.

Mr Abdallah, who is currently recuperating at Al Farouq Hospital in Mombasa County, and a friend, were attacked by a gang of four youths.

“We had just left one of the houses at Buxton shortly before the Ishaa prayers when we were accosted by the four. I was hit on the head with a stone before I fell on the ground,” said Mr Mbarak.

“I shielded off my head as one of the boys tried to slash me. They cut my hand several times,” he added.

He said his attackers made away with his wallet which had some cash, his mobile phone and a wrist watch. A good Samaritan took him to hospital.

ACTION TAKEN

Mr Mbarak’s brother, Mr Mohamed Mbarak, told the Nation that his brother was attacked by people well known in the neighbourhood.  

He noted that there was an increase in criminal cases involving the youths in Majengo, Buxton and Old Town.

At the same time, police are investigating a situation where two men were capture on camera robbing two people near Barka Restaurant in Old Town.

Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki told the Nation that the matter being investigated.

 “We are aware of the said (video) clip which has gone viral and action has been taken.” Mr Achoki said.
