Mombasa politician Abdi Daib has asked Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho to drop his 2022 presidential ambitions and concentrate on serving the people first.

Addressing journalists in Mombasa on Monday, Mr Daib said the governor has huge task to transform the county and this should be his main concern between now and 2022.

"I know the governor as a shrewd politician who can go for whatever seat he wants, but I want to tell him that he must first serve the people who elected him,” Mr Daib said.

Last Friday, only a day after he returned from a long an overseas trip, Governor Joho announced his ambition to go for the presidency as unstoppable.

The governor said his quest to vie for presidency in 2022 is unshaken, adding he will trounce Deputy President William Ruto and clinch the top seat. “God willing I will vie and win,” Mr Joho said.

GARBAGE

But Mr Daib told the governor to concentrate on service delivery for the people of Mombasa since the 2022 presidential battle is a long way to go.

“The governor is deputy party leader of ODM and we know that Mr Odinga, the party leader will be in the ballot with Ruto. So Joho has no place in that contest,” he said.

The politician said Mombasa is currently grappling with garbage problems and dangerous street gangs.

“Some of these gangs are youths who have no jobs yet the governor promised jobs for them. These and many other challenges that should be addressed urgently,” he said.

Mr Daib vied for the Changamwe parliamentary seat in last year’s General Election on a Jubilee Party ticket but lost to ODM’s Omar Mwinyi.
