  • The endless cry of the woman’s one-year-old toddler prompted her neighbours to come to the baby’s rescue.

Police in Mombasa have launched investigations to establish circumstances under which a 28-year-old mother of one allegedly killed herself.

The woman’s body was found in her house in Bamburi by her neighbours in what seemed to be a suicide but the note she left raised suspicions third parties may have contributed to her death.

The endless cry of the woman’s one-year-old toddler prompted her neighbours to come to the baby’s rescue.

To their shock, the neighbours found the toddler’s mother, Jackline Ngugi, 28, dangling from the fan of her room.

A neighbour said the woman’s death shocked them as she was “a happy lady” during her three-year stay at Fisheries in Kisauni Sub County.

Ngugi left a suicide note asking God to be the judge of her action.

“God forgive me. This was not my will neither my wish. Fight for my blood God. Watch over my son. I have taken my life. Mum forgive me, I did not want any of this to happen to me. Take care of my son. God be the judge and fight for my innocent blood. If they drove me to this be the judge,” reads the note.

A police report showed Ngugi has been living alone for the last three years.

“We are yet to establish whether she was hanged or she killed herself. Investigations are on and we will get more information as we continue to gather details on the incident,” Mombasa Police Commander Johnstone Ipara told the Nation on phone.

The woman’s baby has been taken in by a neighbour.
