The Tourism Federation of Kenya has assured tourists that Kenya is safe as Coast region governors and religious leaders urge Kenyans to pray for those affected in the DusitD2 hotel terror attack.

The federation's chairman Mohamed Hersi said two main international airports in Nairobi and Mombasa are operating under normal schedules and no means of transport was interrupted after the attack.

“The standard gauge railway connection between Nairobi and Mombasa and all tourists circuits across Kenya are operating normally,” Mr Hersi said.

Mr Hersi assured industry players that they will be updated on any developments through the federation's safety and security centre.

TERROR

Mr Hersi also lauded security forces for their quick response to the incident.

“The response by the Kenyan security forces was swift and well-synchronised, so that within a short time the situation had been brought under control,” he added.

This comes a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta declared that all the terrorists in the Dusit complex attack had been killed.

The President did not specify the number of the gunmen that had stormed the complex, which houses the upmarket DusitD2 Hotel, among others. A total of 14 people were killed in the attack.

DONATION

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi, religious leaders and elders from Coast region have also condemned the terror attack.

“I join hands with all Kenyans of goodwill to condemn the cowardly attack on innocent people at Dusit complex in Nairobi. I wish those who have been injured a speedy recovery and my sympathies to families that may have lost their loved ones,” Mr Joho said.

At Koblenz hall in Mombasa, residents turned up in large numbers to donate blood for the victims of the attack as Kenya Red Cross Society and volunteers helped the individuals.
