On August 27, Mr Otieno was charged with abducting the child with intend to have her murdered.

He denied the charge and was remanded to assist police trace the girl or her body.

LEFT HOUSE

Last week, detectives told the court that Mr Otieno took them to a spot in Thogoto forest where they recovered his national ID, his mobile phone and the girl’s clothes.

The accused is said to have left his house in Satellite, Nairobi with the child on August 18 when the mother was at work.

He returned in the wee hours of the following day without the girl and told the wife that the girl was on her way home.

By the time the wife left for work, the girl had not arrived home.

Later in the day, a relative called to inform her of a chilling letter her husband had written.

ACCUSED

Mr Otieno had accused his wife of disrespect and he was contemplating suicide.

Alarmed, the wife reported the matter to the police on August 19 and Mr Otieno was arrested the same day.

The search for the girl or her body commenced immediately.

Police decided to charge him with abduction and asked the court to allow them to hold the suspect in custody as they investigate the incident further.

RECOVERED

Monday, the prosecution told the court that police had recovered parts of the girl’s body in Ngong Forest and would be charging the accused with murder.

“Due to these developments we are asking the court to allow the police to hold the accused for seven more days,” the prosecutor urged the court.

Mr Otieno did not object and the application was granted.

The case will be mentioned on October 5.
