First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has expressed the need for concerted effort to ensure women are accorded equal opportunities as men.

She spoke on Friday while presiding over the official launch of the book ‘From Glass Ceilings to Open Skies’ written by Evelyn Mungai, a top businesswoman and entrepreneur.

The book focuses on women in business, leadership and mentoring and tells stories of thirty influential women from Kenya and beyond.

The First Lady said although the country had made progress in women empowerment, there is need to push for the trend to continue upward, adding that both men and women must join hands in it.

She also congratulated all women in the book for their determination and resilience and for having achieved so much despite the challenges, adding that their stories will be used as examples to emulate.

“Some have made it in business, others in professions, others in public service and others in philanthropy. They are women from different backgrounds and multiple generations – some, indeed, have contributed from as far away as America,” she said.

She commended Ms Evelyn for the inspiring book and for having gathered all those women together.

Mrs Kenyatta noted that every single page of the book speaks of women who have boldly reached out into the world and have made a significant difference.
