An operation to rescue a man trapped inside a collapsed quarry in Njiru, Nairobi County, is underway, National Disaster Management Unit Deputy Director Pius Masai says.

Disaster response units from the Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Red Cross Society and the fire brigade are at the scene.

The worker, identified as 34-year-old Steven Mureithi, is married with two children.

The quarry collapsed at 7:40am.
