  • Traders said Nairobi County government did not give them ample time to find alternative market.

Tens of stalls were on Friday destroyed as traders near the Muthaiga Police Station on Kiambu Road were evicted from the area.

“They said that our stalls obstructed the road and posed a security threat,” said Ms Alice Nduta, who had been running a small restaurant for a year.

Another stall owner, who didn’t want to be mentioned, said they were evicted for littering the area.

The traders also claim that while they had been given a 14-day notice in May, the court had granted them 90 more days to seek an alternative site.

“However, it has been less than a month now and they are back to kick us,” Ms Nduta.

Ms Nduta said the Nairobi County government only warned them on Thursday that they were going to demolish the stalls.
