Man, daughter deny killing Nanyuki businessman

A father and his 23-year-old daughter accused of killing Nanyuki businessman George Gachibi have denied the charge of murder.

Mr Charles Macharia and Ms Jane Wanjiku, were charged that jointly with others not before court, murdered the trader on December 4, 2018 at 2am in Nanyuki town, Laikipia East Sub-County.

They denied the charge Monday when they appeared before Justice Teresia Mumbua Matheka at the High Court in Nyeri.

The judge rejected their application to be granted bail and ruled that the matter will be determined by Justice Hatari Waweru, who is on vacation, at the High Court in Nanyuki on February 5, 2019.

BOND

State Counsel Kennedy Magoma also told the court that the case investigating officer is yet to confirm whether the suspects can be released on bond.

Mr Magoma said the Director of Public Prosecutions will produce 16 witnesses in the case.

The suspects were arrested at their home in Kirwara village, Gatanga, Murang’a County on December 5, 2018 by officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations. They were found with the victim's car and electronics.

STOLEN CAR

“Detectives acted swiftly on receiving information about the stolen car and laid an ambush. After a short while, it was spotted being driven to a petrol station in Kirwara, Gatanga. The driver, Charles Macharia, was arrested. The vehicle and all items stolen from the deceased were recovered,” the DCI said.

Police said Ms Wanjiku works as a waitress at a hotel in Nanyuki.

Since their arrest, the suspects have been in remand at King’ong’o GK Prison.

The victim, who was the proprietor of Checkers Bar and Restaurant in Nanyuki town, was found dead in his house.
