Kenya’s Safari Lodge Angama Mara has been ranked the best lodge in Africa and Middle East by the Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.

The prestigious lodge located on the western edge of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve came top in the US luxury and travel magazine’s 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards.

It boasts of its strategic location on the Siria escarpment which affords visitors a bird’s-eye view of the Mara Triangle, structured game-viewing and walking safaris and a kopje where scenes from the film Out of Africa were filmed.

It was also cited for its innovate ‘Italian inflected designs which gives the place a bit of cosmopolitan flair’ while embracing the wild surroundings.

‘The action- where you will see plenty of the Mara Triangle’s big five- is ten minutes down a private road. From your suite, you’ll be able to watch elephants, buffaloes and giraffes milling about,’ the magazine stated.

AWARDS

Singita Sabi Sand and Marataba Safari Lodges, both from South Africa, followed in quick succession at the second and third position respectively, noted for their generally good amenities and expert guides with a beautiful surrounding of the red-hued Water bug Mountains.

Two Zambian lodges took up the fourth and fifth position respectively. Royal Chundu luxury lodge is primarily known for its setting among almost 2,000-year-old Jackalberry trees and its tented suites built on stilts and facing Victoria Falls along River Zambezi.

For its part, Chindeni Bushcamp in South Luanga National park is mostly named for its nearness to diverse wildlife species and location at the edge of a lagoon.

At position six, seven, nine and ten respectively were four other South African lodges: Royal Mawene Lodge, Makanyi Private Game Lodge, Singita Lebombo lodge and Morukuru Family Lodge.

Vumbura Plains Lodge was the only Botswanan Lodge in the top ten and came up eighth.

The awards ceremony was held at Ham Yard Hotel in London, UK on October 9.
