Ex-VP Moody Awori's firm shows it owns Karen land

A company associated with former Vice-President Moody Awori on Tuesday produced evidence in the High Court to prove that it owns a Sh8 billion city farm as the lawyer of a dead widow staking a claim to the land pulled out of the case.
Lawyer William Arusei withdrew when his request to adjourn the case to enable Catherine Njeri Ng’ang’a to seek orders at the Family Division authorising her to pursue the case on behalf of Carmelina Mburu was rejected.
DISPUTE
Carmelina, the widow of former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner John Mburu, died in October 2017. She had claimed the 134 acres in Karen belonged to her husband.
She appointed Ms Ng’ang’a to represent her in the dispute and as well as in her husband’s estate. But after she died, Ms Ng’ang’a filed a case in the Family Division seeking orders allowing her to continue representing Carmelina, but had received no response.
The plea to adjourn the case was strongly opposed by lawyer Cecil Miller, representing Muchanga Investments Ltd, — whose shareholders are Mr Awori and the late Horatius Da Gama Rose — saying the case has been pending for more than three years.
He said that if the court was determined to go on with the hearing, “then I have no option but to step aside.” But he added that if Ms Ng’ang’a got the order allowing her to continue with the case, “I will be at liberty to recall the witnesses for cross-examination”.
