Amina to launch Form One selection drive today

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed will this morning launch the 2019 Form One Selection almost two weeks after the results were released.
Ms Amina will kick off the nationwide process at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and unlike previously, the selection will be done only once after the Ministry said there will be no second selection.
Over 50 percent of the candidates scored more than 250 marks and the government has promised 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary schools.
Pupils who scored more than 400 marks are expected to join national schools.
While releasing the results two weeks ago, Ms Amina said 12,273 candidates scored between 401 and 500 marks, which means that they will get a direct ticket to the 103 top schools.
The selection of students for Form One is guided by four considerations: merit, equity, choice and affirmative action.
Additionally, the top five candidates of either gender from every sub-county will be placed in national schools on the basis of the choices they made during registration for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
Two candidates tied at the top in this year’s KCPE exams after they both scored 453 marks out of possible 500. A total of 1,052,364 sat the KCPE exams.
