Former Senator Gwendo arrested over Sh2m theft

Former Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo will on Monday appear in court to face charges of abuse of office and theft of Sh2.2 million.

She was arrested on Friday and recorded a statement with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). She was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had given a consent that she be charged for stealing, issuing a bad cheque and abuse of office in respect of the Sh2.2 million belonging to a cooperative society in Kisumu.

The offences were allegedly committed in October and December 2016.

Ms Gwendo was nominated by TNA in 2013.
