KCPE candidate electrocuted during lunch break

A Standard Eight pupil died Wednesday after he was electrocuted at school, officials said.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate at Getembe Primary School in Nyamira was electrocuted when the pupils were on a lunch break.

It is alleged that the candidate climbed a water tank within the school compound touched loosely hanging live wires and was electrocuted.

The boy died while receiving treatment at a local dispensary.

Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the incident and said police have opened an investigation into the matter.

Teachers at the school, said the boy was a bright pupil and that they were expecting good results from him.

The body of the victim was moved to Nyamira Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
