Police in India are investigating the murder of a Kenyan woman identified only as Annsam in Mehrauli, South New Delhi.

According to police reports, the 45-year-old moved to India's capital 10 months ago and had been living in a flat with other Kenyans.

Annsam's body was found in a pool of blood in the rented house on Monday night.

“We received a call at 8.10pm from a Kenyan woman claiming her sister had been killed,” South District Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar told news agency Indian Express.

“We rushed to the spot and took the woman to AIIMS (hospital), where a doctor declared her dead on arrival."

Annsam's body had a deep knife wound in the chest.

“A knife stab wound was found to the left side of the chest," Mr Kumar was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

SUSPECTS

Mr Kumar told the Hindustan Times that Annsam had been living with "six or seven women other women from her country".

Detectives are holding the Kenyan woman who called them and one of the victim's flatmates for investigations.

The flatmate was arrested after police noticed she had bruises, which they believe were sustained in a fight with Annsam.

Police claim the two had a fight as Annsam refused to heed to the flatmate's request for liquor a few days ago.

BEER

An eyewitness, the flatmate's boyfriend who is also a Kenyan, was in the house at the time of the fight.

“The roommate and her boyfriend were missing but they were tracked and made to join the probe,” an officer close to the investigations told the Hindustan Times.

“The boyfriend admitted that his girlfriend had an altercation with Annsam over a bottle of beer. As of now, the Kenyan woman is a suspect. The man's role in the crime is being investigated."

On Wednesday, police said they were questioning neighbours, friends and other Kenyan women who lived in the building. They were yet to identify Annsam's relatives.

The officers said the killers took Annsam's passport, visa and mobile phone.
