Court suspends case of lawyer charged with selling guns to Jimi Wanjigi

- Lawyer Memba Muriuki is charged with selling prohibited guns to businessman Jimi Wanjigi.
A Nairobi-based lawyer did not appear in a Nyeri court on Thursday in a case in which he is charged with selling three prohibited guns and 100 bullets to businessman Jimi Wanjigi.
Mr Memba Muriuki had been summoned before Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo, but his lawyer, a Mr Kaberia, told the court that the criminal proceedings had been stopped by a High Court in Nairobi.
ORDERS
The court was told that the orders were obtained on March 7, 2018 from Justice Roselyn Aburili.
The orders directed the Inspector-General of Police, Director of Public Prosecutions and the Nyeri chief magistrate to suspend proceedings or plea taking in the criminal case until the judge issues further directives.
Justice Aburili allowed Mr Muriuki to file a judicial review application in which he is opposing his prosecution.
The judge also ordered him to serve copies of the review to the Inspector-General of Police, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Nyeri chief magistrate.
CHARGE
According to the charge sheet, the lawyer is charged with selling guns and bullets to Mr Wanjigi on October 17, 2013 and on August 12, 2014.
The prosecution has lined up six witnesses in the case, including the former Chief Gun Licensing Officer Samuel Kimaru and Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer Maxwell Otieno.
The mention of the case is scheduled for April 12, 2018.
