Sharon murder: Bail hearing set for Friday as cases merged

What you need to know:

  • The three have been charged with two counts of murder, that of Otieno and her unborn child.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his two aides will remain in custody for several more days after the High Court set their bail hearing for this Friday.

The court has allowed the State to merge their murder cases in the killing of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

The suspects – Mr Obado, his personal assistant Michael Juma Oyamo and county assembly clerk Casper Obiero – pleaded to the second count related to the death of Ms Otieno's unborn child.

The three now face two counts of murder in connection with the killing of Ms Otieno and her unborn child.

The court was to hear the prosecutors' plan to merge the cases and the suspects' requests for bail when the second count was added.

The suspects will remain in police custody until Friday, October 12, when the court will hear and determine whether they will be freed on bond pending a trial.

The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya and Ms Otieno's mother have filed an application seeking to have the suspects held in remand until the trial is completed.
