Principals and head teachers have been reshuffled in changes made by the Teachers Service Commission ahead of next week’s opening of schools.

Some of the affected teachers have been promoted and others have been swapped places or re-deployed as assistant teachers.

Some principals have been moved to their neighbouring counties.

In Homa Bay County, some 26 principals have been affected by the reshuffles that take effect immediately. Three have been reappointed as principals after being demoted some years ago.

Long-serving Principal of St Joseph Rapogi in Migori County, Mr Thomas Kogola, has been moved to Ambira High School in Siaya County.

Mr Kogola has been replaced by Mr Maurice Ndolo, the former head at Orero Secondary in Homa Bay.

Mrs Eva Odhiambo has been moved from Sinaga Girls in Siaya County to Ogande Girls in Homa Bay, where she takes over from Mrs Rose Ombewa.

Homa Bay County TSC Director John Kingoo said Mrs Ombewa’s fate was yet to be decided.

Mr Vincent Mayienga of Nyalkinyi Secondary moves to the neighbouring Kuoyo Kochia Secondary, where he takes over from Mr Malaki Okeyo who has been posted to Tom Mboya Secondary in Rusinga Island.

Also affected is Mrs Beatrice Abuor who has been moved from Marindi while Mr Tom Okatch of Odienya Mixed has swapped places with Mr John Ogeke of Kome.

Others include Mr Yona Oketch of Okota who moves to Ototo Mixed, while Mr Zablon Okoth of Ludhedongo moves to Rarage.

The school heads who have been redeployed include those of Kodhoch and Maguti secondary schools.

Kisumu County was affected as well.

Kisumu TSC County Director Beatrice Agala said the reshuffle aimed at better performance and efficiency.

The commission was yet to release the list of the principals who had swapped places, promoted or demoted.

“We are yet to release the names of the affected schools for the handing over ceremony to the public,” she said, “but the principals are already aware of their new schools and they are to report immediately schools resume.”

Mrs Agala said the changes were voluntary and targeted principals who had overstayed in schools.

DISCIPLINARY REASONS

“Teachers who had cases with the TSC have been demoted for disciplinary reasons, while the rest with the good remarks were promoted with others being swapped,” she said.

Mr Daniel Ouma, a teacher in Kisumu, said the reshuffling will negatively affect schools as some of the best performing teachers were transferred, leaving behind incomplete projects.

“We hope that our principal will remain because there are several projects he has started and his generosity helped many orphans finish their education,” said Mr Ouma. Primary school heads and assistant teachers were affected too.
