Detectives in Migori County have recorded statements from three more witnesses on the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and abduction of Nation journalist Barack Oduor.

The trio wrote statements on Sunday evening at Migori Police Station, as the probe entered the third week. County CID boss Benedict Kigen dispelled rumours in social media that they had made fresh arrests. "We are gathering information from witnesses to firm up the prosecution's case. We have not arrested new suspects," he said.

COMMUNICATION SIGNALS

Detectives in Nairobi are still tracking down the people who killed the pregnant student and dumped her body in Kodera Forest near Oyugis Town, according to information from police headquarters. They are following communication signals of the suspects before and after the murder.

Sources indicate that the detectives are closing in on four suspects, who could join key suspect Michael Oyamo, the personal assistant of Migori Governor Okoth Obado, at Muthaiga Police Station cells in Nairobi.

COLLECTED FINGERPRINTS

Governor Obado admitted knowing Ms Otieno, but distanced himself from the gruesome murder.

"As a law-abiding citizen, I want to state clearly and categorically that I have nothing — absolutely nothing — to do with the cruel death of Sharon," he said during a press conference at Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

The journalist escaped death by jumping out of the abductors' moving vehicle.

So far, detectives have collected fingerprints from the clothes and other items that Ms Otieno and Mr Oduor had at the time of the kidnapping.
