President Kenyatta travels to London for Commonwealth summit

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday left for the United Kingdom to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The plane carrying President Kenyatta departed from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 10am.

President Kenyatta is expected to join other leaders to discuss collaboration on global issues and priorities for the Commonwealth grouping.

'COMMON FUTURE'

The summit which will focus on promoting prosperity, safety, sustainability and fairness with the theme: ‘Towards a common future’ brings together at least 5,000 participants from government, business, and civil society.

During the five-day visit, the President is expected to hold talks with Queen Elizabeth II and UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

Besides trade and diplomacy, security and regional development priorities are also part of President Kenyatta’s agenda during the five-day visit.

State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said the President is also scheduled to visit the London Stock Exchange (LSE) for a meeting with investors where he will use the occasion to share areas of investment opportunities as envisioned in the country’s Big Four Agenda.

The President according to Statehouse, is also expected to meet Kenyans living in the UK as well as deliver an address at Chatham House, where he will give details on Kenya's efforts in achieving inclusive economic growth.

CHOGM is a biennial meeting of leaders from the 53 countries that make up the Commonwealth of Nations.
