A 24-year-old woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death in Nairobi’s Buru Buru estate nearly three years ago has been found guilty of murder.

High Court Judge Jessie Lesiit dismissed Ruth Wanjiku Kamande’s defence, claiming the she acted in self defence.

According to the Judge, the stab wounds were not consistent with her assertions that her former boyfriend Farid Mohammed had pinned her down as they fought.

The Judge said the wounds were also inflicted at intervals and definitely not by a person in a lying position.

Ms Kamande, who was aged 21 then, is accused of stabbing Mr Mohammed 25 times using a kitchen knife.

Neighbours who responded to his distress call, could not help, because the door was locked from inside.

The woman, who was crowned Miss Lang’ata Prison beauty pageant in 2016, denied murdering Mr Mohammed on September 20, 2015.

The night before the incident, the court heard that she found his old love letters and questioned Mr Mohammed why he was still keeping them.

He allegedly ignored her and went to sleep, only for her to start the conversation the following morning.

After being placed on her defence, Kamande admitted that she stabbed him but could not remember how many times. She claimed that she acted in self-defence because she was being attacked by the man.

She told the court that the man overpowered her and sat on her but she managed to take away the knife and stabbed him.

But the court dismissed her claims saying that the multiple stabs wounds on his back, stomach, chest and neck could not have been inflicted that position. Mr Mohammed died in hospital while undergoing treatment.

The Judge observed that the walls had blood stains all over and a doctor who examined her, ruled out internal injuries on her.

The woman will be brought back to court on July 11 for mitigation and sentencing.
