Mohamed Farmajo declares drought national disaster

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo has declared drought a national disaster.

He made the declaration on Tuesday after chairing a round-table meeting on the drought response at Halane in Mogadishu.

Consequently, President Farmajo appealed to the international community to urgently respond to remedy the situation in the Horn of Africa state.

The meeting at the United Nations base, was the highest level so far on the current drought.

It was also attended by UN officials and the representatives of several aid agencies.

The drought has ravaged almost all Horn of Africa states, including Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eretria.

Millions of people are staring at death, with millions of livestock and animals dead.
