Deputy President William Ruto has announced that the government will recruit 2,000 technical institute’s tutors to boost manpower in readiness for the high number of students joining the institutions.

He said the government is keen on attracting the youth to study technical courses to help the country in its industrialisation.

Mr Ruto announced that the first batch of 1,000 tutors will be employed next month while a similar number will be absorbed next year to bridge the gap between students and tutors.

Speaking at Jeremiah Nyagah Technical Institute in Embu County during the institution’s first graduation ceremony where 1,468 students graduated, Mr Ruto said the country was committed to build a large pool of technical experts.

The DP regretted that the country had for long ignored technical education and thus had stagnated in its bid to develop industries.

Mr Ruto said the government had slashed technical institutions fees by half and allocated Sh30,000 bursary for every student who will join the institutions in a bid to lure more youth to take technical courses.

He pledged Sh10 million for completion of hostels at the institution to help it accommodate students and further, a college bus.
