3 Migori schools miss KCSE results over cheating claims

Three schools in Migori County have not received their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam results.

Komotobo Secondary School in Kuria East, Nyabisawa Girls' Secondary in Suna West and Agenga Secondary School in Nyatike missed their results.

The three centres are among schools whose results were withheld by the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) over suspected cheating.

While releasing results on Friday, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed said results for some schools had been withheld over alleged irregularities.

The CS, however, did mention the schools or regions affected.

At Komotobo secondary, gloom and anxiety gripped candidates, teachers and parents when it emerged that their results have been withheld.

The centre is one of the schools that have reportedly been on Knec’s radar over claims of cheating.

During the tests in November, several Knec and county education officials visited the school often in a bid to monitor it closely.

Immediately the results were released, some of the parents and teachers who sent messages to the Knec short code were shocked to be informed that there are no results.

"I kept sending messages to Knec to confirm some of the results only to learn later that they have been withheld. We only hope for the best but the anxiety among the school fraternity is huge," one of the teachers told the Nation.

Some of the parents also expressed optimism that their children will get results.

GRADE Y

"It's very unfortunate that the results for our school have not come. I only pray that eventually, our children will get the results," said one of the parents.

At Nyabisawa, one of the top performers in Migori County, some of the teachers were shocked at the news.

"We did not expect such a thing. We have never engaged in cheating and I hope the results will be released soon," one of the teachers, who sought anonymity, said.

The principal of the school could not be reached for a comment.

At Rapogi Secondary School in Uriri sub-County, five students got grade Y (which means cheating) in French.

This dampened the mood at the extra county school, which posted sterling performance in past KCSE exams.

The school produced two students who were among the top 100 best nationally.

NYAROHA

Teddy Otieno was at number 23 with 86.837 points and Mathayo Okombo at number 90 with 84.844 points.

At Kanga Boys Secondary School, Dancun Sunday emerged tops with an A of 80 points.

The school posted 48 A (minuses) and 74 B+ to emerge the best in Migori County, with a mean of 8.8151.

Taranganya Boys in Kuria West, which is one of the best performers in Migori County, posted three A-(minuses) and 5 B+s, a drop compared to last year’s class.

At Nyaroha Girls' Secondary School in Kuria East, there were celebrations after the highest number of candidates scored the minimum university entry grade of C+.

Mokami Anastancia Mutundi scored a B+ to be the top girl in the region.

Kanyawanga High, another giant, posted three A- and 16 B+, with a mean of 5.92, the lowest performance ever posted by the school in the recent years.
