Hamisi Omar wins Kinondo Ward by-election

  • His defeated his closest challenger, Juma Maone of Jubilee Party, by 708 votes.

Hamisi Mohamed Omar of Orange Democratic Movement is the new Kinondo Ward MCA after defeating three other candidates in a hotly-contested race marked by low turnout.

Mr Omar garnered 3,412 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Juma Maone of Jubilee Party, who was defending and got 2,704 votes.

Mr Chula Kazole of DPK emerged a distant third, garnering only 28 votes while Mr Juma Abdallah Mambo of NVP came in fourth with 20 votes.

A total of 6,114 votes were cast out in the race in ward with 11,014 registered voters.

CELEBRATIONS

Msambweni IEBC Returning Officer Yusuf Abubakar, who released the official results at Kinondo Social Hall, declared Mr Mohamed the winner.

Soon after being declared the winner, hundreds of his supporters broke into song and dance inside the tallying centre and poured into the Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway.

In his victory speech, Mr Omar said the people of Kinondo have chosen a person who will address their problems.

"Above all I thank God and I appreciate everybody for the victory and promise to serve all without discrimination," he said.

He extended an olive branch to his competitors and called on them to join hands with him in serving the people of Kinondo.

Mr Omar was flanked by ODM nominated Senator Dr Agnes Zani, Kwale Woman Rep Zuleikha Hassan Juma, Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori, Speaker Sammy Ruwa and a host of MCAs allied to ODM.

The jubilant leaders said that ODM's victory in the mini poll was a confirmation that Kwale is still an ODM stronghold.
