Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said he supports President Kenyatta's purge on corruption.

Mr Musyoka said corruption had caused joblessness among the youths with many citizens languishing in poverty across the country.

Speaking at a Kamba cultural event dubbed ‘Athiani Night’ at Garden Hotel in Machakos on Saturday, the Wiper leader said ending corruption will enable the government to implement major projects such as the proposed Konza Technocity.

“When corruption is dealt with, we will be able to build the Konza Technocity which will create jobs for our people,” said Mr Musyoka who was accompanied by Kilome MP Thadeus Nzambia, Makueni County Speaker Douglas Mbilu, Wiper Party gubernatorial candidate in the last elections and her running mate Wavinya Ndeti and Peter Mathuki, respectively, and members of Machakos County Assembly.

LIFESTYLE AUDIT

The Wiper leader also said he supported the President's call on lifestyle audit adding that no one should be spared by the audit.

"Uhuru says he will not spare his own brother if he is found to be corrupt. That is good leadership," said Mr Musyoka.

He, however, pointed out that some politicians who were loudly condemning others as corrupt could be found to be the real thieves when the audit is done.

Mr Musyoka said he will await the verdict of the Supreme Court in the Machakos gubernatorial election petition before vigorously campaigning for his candidate if voters are asked to return to the ballot.

"Our people are more united than ever before. Let us wait for the verdict of the Supreme Court and you will see my true colours," he said.

WEALTHY POLITICIANS

Ms Ndeti dismissed allegations that some wealthy politicians were footing her legal bills to challenge the outcome of Governor Alfred Mutua’s election.

Dr Mutua had claimed the lawyers whom Ms Ndeti had engaged were too expensive for her to afford and questioned her source of funds.

"She has engaged lawyers who charge Sh25 million before opening the file. Where is she getting the money from?" Dr Mutua posed on Citizen TV on Thursday.

But responding to Dr Mutua on Saturday, Ms Ndeti said she is a person of means.

"You know me. I am not a person to be given money. Let him not claim that I am hiring expensive lawyers. I am not corrupt,” said Ms Ndeti.

Various leaders at the event rooted for Ms Ndeti to be the next governor of Machakos County.
