  • His sentiments come at a time when Ford Kenya leaders have intensified calls on the rival New Ford Kenya party to rejoin its mother party to form a formidable political force.

Former vice-president Wamalwa Kijana will be remembered on Sunday with politics of Luhya unity and the raging sugar matter set to take centre stage  at his Kitale home in what will be a culmination of days of cultural liturgy and symbolism.

Ahead of the memorial event, the late vice president’s brother Eugene Wamalwa, who is the Water and Irrigation cabinet secretary, has reiterated the need for a reality check on Luhya unity.

“We want to have real unity instead of the current fashion of registering many political parties by Luhya politicians. We must live the dream of the late vice president,” said Mr Wamalwa.

His sentiments come at a time when Ford Kenya leaders have intensified calls on the rival New Ford Kenya party to rejoin its mother party to form a formidable political force.

“We want our friends in New Ford Kenya to come back home to Ford Kenya for us to front a united force,” said Trans Nzoia Ford Kenya chairman Ferdinand Wanyonyi.

However, New Ford Kenya leaders led by Governor Ken Lusaka, instead termed the calls as disrespectful, belittling and an insult to their party.

“Why do they think we are supposed to disband our party and join theirs yet we have large numbers in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma county assemblies?” questioned governor Lusaka.

The Governor also faulted Ford Kenya leaders of insincerity in their unity calls yet have maintained a smear campaign against New Ford Kenya leaders by referring to them as traitors at public forums.
