Anyango destroys field to clinch U20 X-Country title

Emmaculate Anyango from Bomet destroyed the field to win the women's Under-20 race as Athletics Kenya Cross Country Series got underway in Machakos on Saturday.

Anyango, who hails from Siaya County, took command after just one lap before sweeping to victory in 20 minutes and 49.79 seconds.

Anyango edged out Margaret Akidor from Mfae in 20:59.82 as home athlete Desma Chepkoech settled third in 21:12.20.

"I enjoyed the race but it was somewhat hot and humid, " said the 15-year-old Anyango, a class seven pupil at Kibugat Primary School in Bomet.

Anyango's dream now is to go on and win at the Nationals and represent Kenya at the World Cross Country Championships due March 30 next year in Aarhus, Denmark.

"That is my target and I am training hard to achieve it," said Anyango, who is training under coach Paul Tangus.
