Two-time World Military Games champion Gideon Gathimba will be making his cross country entry this season in Nyeri on Saturday during the county championships.

The 1,500 metres specialist from Laikipia Airbase said he will be plunging into long distance running this season as he targets selection to the national team.

“My age is advancing and I think am ready for long distance running. I am fit for the season and I guarantee a good run on Saturday,” said Gathimba.

For the last three years, the two-time World Military Games champion, has been struggling with hamstring and tendon injuries.

It is during this period that he focused much of his energy on his charity organization, Gathimba Edwards Foundation, assisting poor children in his village in Mathira, Nyeri County.

“It has been a tough time for me for the last three years but I am fit now. I have been testing my body at Kaptagat and I am so ready for any competition,” he added.
