Mathare United coach Francis Kimanzi is the Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month for January.

Kimanzi, whose side were top of the league the entire month of January, wade off competition from Bandari's Bernard Mwalala and Western Stima's Paul Ogai.

During the month of January, Kimanzi led Mathare to four wins and two draws from six matches.

Mathare United were held by Gor Mahia (1-1) and Kariobangi Sharks (0-0) while they beat Kakamega Homeboyz (3-2), Vihiga United (3-1), KCB (2-1) and Tusker (2-1).

This is the third time the Harambee Stars assistant coach is walking away with the award, having won the inaugural gong in February 2016 and also named the best in February 2018.

“It’s something special because it shows we have been doing a good job. It has taken a lot of sacrifice from the players, the technical staff and the management to achieve this," said Kimanzi.

“Every time we tend to prepare our team to behave in a unique way on the pitch and that it involves a lot of work here on the training ground. I am happy to see that they have responded well and their attitude even when trailing has been unique. That’s why results have been going our way,” said Kimanzi.

With his team third on the log and trailing leaders Bandari by two points, Kimanzi is coy about making wholesome changes in his squad during the midseason transfer window.

“I think we have a good group so we are not looking at introducing strangers to the group. In fact, in the second leg you should be looking at working with a smaller group. We might be loaning out a few players,” he revealed.

Kimanzi becomes the second coach to win the coach of the month ward this season after Western Stima’s Paul Ogai who piped him to the gong in December.
