StarTimes launch media ‘World Cup’ tournament

Pay Television provider StarTimes has set local media houses against each other in a football tournament scheduled for June 2, just days before the Fifa World Cup kicks off.

Sixteen teams will vie for bragging rights and cash awards during the tournament at Nairobi’s Upper Hill School.

The teams have been seeded in four pots comprising four teams with the draw to determine which media houses fall into the same group due be conducted next week.

Star Times have partnered with Sports Journalists Association of Kenya for the tournament for staff working for the media houses, but not just sports journalists.

“Journalists have been critical of professional players in their match reports and reviews. This tournament gives them a chance to put their skills on display so that they too can be critiqued,” StarTimes marketing manager Japheth Akhulia joked.
