The revolving door that is Gor Mahia's coaching job claimed yet another Kenyan Premier League (KPL) winning coach for the third time in six years after Englishman Dylan Kerr resigned on Thursday.

Gor has won five titles in the past six seasons but failed to hold onto three title-winning coaches.

The 51-year-old Kerr adds to the list after leading the record Kenyan champions to back-to-back titles.

Kerr registered 51 wins, 16 draws and 12 losses in 79 competitive matches during his 16-month spell since taking charge July last year.

The trend started when Scottish Bobby Williamson broke an 18-year trophy drought in 2013 before resigning in August 2014 to take up Harambee Stars job.

He was replaced by compatriot Frank Nuttall who delivered the 2014 gong and defended it the following season in remarkable fashion as the team went the entire season unbeaten.

Nuttall then left in a huff for Egyptian side Zamalek after a shock 1-0 defeat to rivals AFC Leopards on March 7 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

His place was taken by Brazilian Jose Ferreira alias Ze Maria who couldn’t deliver silverware in 2016 paving way for Kerr's arrival in July last year.

Nation Sport understands the former Simba tactician was frustrated by off-the-pitch issues at the club leading to his failure to return to the country after guiding Gor in a historic friendly match against English side Everton at Goodison Park on November 6.

First, the 25-day boycott protesting delayed salaries and bonuses for the month of August, led to a four-match losing streak that left Kerr fuming.

“I’m not happy with the club for what they’ve done with salaries but they are hurting me, I either stay or the chairman fires me," forewarned Kerr post-match after their 2-2 draw against Mathare United on September 30 in Kisumu.

Secondly, the coach lost access to his car after it broke down in April and was moved to a cheaper apartment to cut cost amid other pertinent issues.

“I think they should’ve tried to keep me, it was a painful decision to leave because I loved Kenya,” Kerr ton Nation Sport on phone from his base in England.

Gor, through Club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lordvick Aduda, has confirmed that assistant coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno will lead the team on interim basis as they prepare for a busy 2018/2019 season which kicks off with a Caf Champions League preliminary round tie against Malawi's Nyasa Bullets in a fortnight.

“We’ve a pool of CVs that the technical committee will sit and come up with a shortlist but we hope to tackle it as soon as possible so that we’ve a new coach at the helm sooner,” Aduda said.

This is the second time Zico has been handed the team on temporary basis in less than two years.
