Nzioka clinches Rhino Charge crown

Handicap 14 golfer Collins Nzioka returned an impressive 44 points made up of 21 points in the first nine and a strong 23 from the back nine, to claim the overall title, during the weekend’s Rhino Charge Charity golf tournament at Limuru Country Club.

His score included two birdies in the last two holes having earlier picked up a number of pars in the event that attracted a field of 150 players. Finishing in second place was Paul Maina with 41 points, one better than Edwin Kigochi who carded 20 points in each nine for 40 points.

In the ladies section, Christine Adams playing off handicap 16 carded 32 points to take the ladies first prize in addition to the nearest to pin prize, with Kiambu’s Joyce Wanjiru finishing second on 30 points.

David Waiganjo claimed the first nine with a score of 22 points, and taking the second nine was Kimani Guchu on 21. Waiganjo also won the nearest to pin prize. The longest drive winners were Adelbert Omooria and Gladys Mboya. The event was in support of the Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust, which works towards safeguarding the environment.

At Vet Lab; Ken Mariga won the Sungura Cup event sponsored by Prof Ole Mbatia after beating Abraham Samoei 4-3 in the final match where George Warui beat Musikari Kombo 2-up to finish third. In the second round subsidiary, Onesmus Kibuna posted 41 points to win ahead of Patrick Matu on 39. The ladies winner was Joyce Wafula with a score of 36 points and Francis Kimanzi emerged the guest winner on 41 points.

The round one subsidiary prize went to Isaac Makokha on net 70 playing off handicap two. A total of 118 players participated in the annual event.

At Kenya Railway Golf Club, Joseph Kagicha carded 44 points to win the Western Jazz golf tournament, beating men winner Kithinji Kanyaura by five points. Ken Mburu on 37 points was second in the men’s section while leading the ladies was Milfred Malubi on 34 points following a count back with Wanjiru Karume. The nines went to Kaash Padam and Eddy Wakaba on 21 points each while the sponsors winner was Adelbert Nyabuto Omooria with 37 points. Lucy Kisia was the lady sponsors winner with 24 points.

Sammy Njoroge emerged the gross winner on 35 points and Kamau Kiarie was the best guest with 37 points. Samuel Njoroge and Wanjiru Karume won the longest drive and the nearest to pin prize went to Kamau Kiarie.

At Karen, Steve Waruhiu won the A division prize in the January Mug sponsored by Heritage Insurance with a score of 69 nett.

He beat Paul Kaguamba by three shots while Emmanuel Agengo clinched the gross on 79, and the nines went to Macharia Gakuo and John Muiruri on 35 and 34 nett. In B division, Kamau Kimondo fired an impressive 67 nett, to win by a shot from the veteran Phineas Miriti. John Konchellah and Samuel Maugo won the nines on 34.5 and 33.5 nett.

Winning the C division was Henezi Matiko with 38 points, beating Chris Everard on countback and the nines went to Titus Waithaka and Patrick Rono on 22 and 23 points. The seniors prize was won by Mutu Gethoi with a score of 37 points.

At Sigona; Deep Shah playing off handicap five, carded 40 points to take the overall prize in the Friends of the Captain golf tournament, after beating Adam Tayebjee, Jay Dhanani, and Adam Merali on countback.

Sonia Patel won the ladies prize with 38 points and S. Viraaj clinched the junior title on 34 points. The nines went to Hanif Tayebjee and Solomon Kanja on 23 and 21 points respectively.
