Over 100 drawn to play in Ruiru Dam Charity tournament

The par 72 Vet Lab Sports Club course, one of the longest in the country, will Friday host the Ruiru Dam Charity golf tournament.

The event had attracted over 100 players by Thursday.

Being hosted by the Friends of Ruiru Dam (Ford), the tournament aims to raise at least a Sh1 million. It is part of a major fund raising campaign Ford is organising this year.

The other sporting activity will be Ruiru Dam Half Marathon to be held on August.

According to Ford chairman Samuel Karanja Kagwe and vice chairperson Wangari Njuru, both events are aimed at creating awareness to the community about environmental conservation.

Kagwe says the Ruiru Dam Half Marathon will be a major event for Kiambu County and asked schools to prepare their students for the event in August.

We intend to start the event early from 6am as we expect a huge field and would like all players to play and finish,” she said.

Meanwhile a big field of 200 golfers was drawn for the MIG (Mavuno Investment Group) Corporate Golf Day this weekend at Ruiru Sports Club.

MIG, an investment group that brings together a dozen  medium firms such as Riflotec Building products, Vibro Dampers, Triumph Propertis, Stema Engineering, Kihara Electricals and Roan Services, make a return visit to Ruiru, two months after their inaugural tournament.
