Kenya joins international schools sports federation

Kenya has joined the International School Sports Federation, opening the way for the country’s teams to take part in the World Secondary school games beginning this year.

On Tuesday, Kenya joined the International School Sports Federation, the World schools sports organisation, during the organisation’s general assembly which is ongoing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary General David Ngugi, who is attending the general assembly, only Kenyan teams which finish top at the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Association (FEASSA) games will get the nod to participate in the global competition organised by International School Sports Federation.

The competition attracts top sporting schools from all over the world.

Ngugi, who is also the FEASSA secretary general,  said the stakes will be higher when Kenya teams travel to Rwanda in August for the regional games which also bring together teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania  and Southern Sudan.

He said all the Kenyan teams which qualify for the regional schools championships will have to put their best foot forward  to ensure they make the finals.

“I’m glad to announce that Kenya has joined the International Schools Sports Federation which will see all the country’s best teams at  the regional  games proceed to the World School games to fight for a chance to become World Schools sports champions,” Ngugi said in a message from Brazil on Tuesday.

An elated Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association chairman Peter Orero said this was the best news to have come for Kenyan schools.
