Makhokho rout Shikokho in school games

Makhokho Secondary School hammered Shikokho Secondary School 29-0 in rugby 15s as the Kakamega South Sub County Secondary Schools Term One Games kicked off at Musingu Secondary School on Thursday.

Fly half Michael Mbaisi touched down three times while Sandra Kiplimo score two more as Makhokho put their opponents to the sword in the lop-sided encounter. Two of Mbaisi’s tries were converted in the emphatic win.

The competition that is being played in a round robin format.

Mbaisi drew first blood with an early try and before the dust could settle, Makhokho stretched their lead through Kiplimo’s unconverted try.

Efforts by Shikokho’s scrum half Ian Gregory, hooker William Obura and winger Yustima Lutta to start a comeback hit a brick wall as Makhokho’s water tight defence led by full back Musa Faraji stood firm.

After the break, Makhokho stepped up their game which saw Kiplimo touch down another unconverted try as they pitched camp in their opponent’s 22.
Mbaisi then completed the rout with two late tries which he converted to wrap up the match.

Makhokho head coach Collins Wekesa said his charges played according to instructions.

“The boys played well. The executions were brilliant. The win will give the players motivation as they go into their next round of fixtures,” Wekesa said after the match.

Shikokho tactician Webster Andabwa said he is rebuilding the team after most of his players cleared school last year.

“I noted some mistakes the boys committed which I will rectify to enable us post good results in our next matches,” Andabwa said.

In another rugby 15s encounter, Shikunga Secondary School saw off Bushiangala Secondary School 37-5.

In the girls’ basketball matches, defending champions Eregi Secondary School beat Imalaba Secondary School 24-18.

Eregi Secondary School also stopped Musali Secondary School 1-0 in the opening match of the girls’ hockey competition that is also being played in a round robin format.
