A Nairobi court Friday issued warrant of arrest against one of the two rugby players accused of gang raping a woman last year.

Chief magistrate Martha Mutuku issued the warrant after the prosecution made the application against Alex Mahaga Olaba. This was the second time the Harlequin player was absconding court.

On Thursday, the court adjourned the matter to Friday afternoon. This was after his lawyer said he was caught up in a traffic jam.

Come Friday, his lawyer said he has been calling him and the rugby player was on his way to court. The matter was adjourned briefly but he had still, not shown up, forcing the court to issue the warrant.

Mr Olaba together with Lawrence Frank Wanyama are accused of raping the woman identified as W.A on February 11, 2018 at Seefa Apartment in Highrise Nairobi. ]

They denied the charge and were released after paying cash bail of Sh500,000 each.

The woman told the court that she was raped overnight on her birthday, February 10.

The woman, who is also a singer became pregnant after the ordeal and she claimed that one of the rugby players, who also plays for the Kenya Sevens team, had threatened to sue if she went public.

The prosecution concluded its case and the two were put on the defence and the magistrate was ready to deliver her judgment.

Ms Mutuku adjourned the matter to August 5.
