Leaders KCB face Mombasa, Kabras away to Kisii

Champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Homeboyz should uphold their top Kenya Cup positions and with bonus point victories when they take on minnows on Saturday in the ninth round of matches. 

KCB, who are the only side yet to taste defeat in eight outings, having beaten Nondescripts 28-6 in Ruaraka on Saturday, are away to Mombasa at the Mombasa Sports Club.

Homeboyz will be riding on their stunning 30-12 victory against Kabras Sugar as they seek to consolidate their second place in the league against Blak Blad.

KCB top the 12-team standings with 39 points, which include seven bonuses and are followed by Homeboyz with 34 from seven wins and a loss.  

Kabras, the 2016 champions, are third on 33 from seven wins and a loss, and are followed by Impala Saracens on 29 and Kenya Harlequin 23.

Kabras hopes to sprout from their loss to Homeboyz with a good win against inspired newcomers Kisii at the Gusii Stadium. Kisii are still buzzing from their upset 18-12 maiden Kenya Cup win against Mwamba last weekend.

Mwamba could found themselves in more problems if they fail to trade cautiously against Nondies at the Railway Club. Both Nondies and Mombasa are in relegation zone what with Nondies having dealt a blow after they were docked 10 points for field ineligible players in their previous matches.

Quins also hope for maximum points when they face visiting Strathmore Leos at the RFUEA Grounds while Impala Saracens goes for Nakuru’s jugular at the Impala Sports Club grounds.

There will be only two round of matches remaining after Saturday before paving way for the top six semi-final play-offs.

The first two teams to top after the regular season will be exempted from the pre semi-finals play-offs.

CHENGE, MANG'ENI OUT

KCB coach Curtis Olago has replaced Oliver Mang’eni and Davis Chenge with Manasse Oduor and Calvin Sule respectively.

Homeboyz coach Paul “Pau” Murunga has only made one change, bringing in Bush Mwale to the wing while resting Alvin Otieno.

“We are not slowing down the tempo and all I want is for my players to enjoy every bit of their game,” said Olago, whose target is to retain Kenya Cup title unbeaten this season.

“I have not made major changes since everyone is fit enough to play with the only difference being Mwale’s switch to the wing so as to give him match fitness,” said Murunga.
