Club officials should lead by example

As plagiarised from my friend Rateng’ Mor Kich on the Gor Mahia Facebook page: “ A club official publicly says "Gor Mahia is being run like a kiosk" and has not bothered to explain this position.

“Officials are elected to provide solutions. If by any chance an official finds their position untenable to the extent that they cannot fulfill their mandate, then the common sense thing to do is to tender their resignation.

“No one was elected to be an activist or a complainer from within. All officials were elected to lead, to offer solutions.

“One day you are singing how (Ambrose) Rachier is the alpha and omega, the next day you are crying that he is running the club like a kiosk. Nonsense.

“The biggest problem with the Gor Mahia office is the lack of (commonality of) purpose. Every official is there with a different agenda. Sadly that agenda is not exclusively Gor Mahia.

“To eradicate this, we need to rethink the election system. It's better to elect officials under the same ticket or just elect a chairman who will then appoint people he can comfortably work with.”

Last week our beloved club was in a mini crisis of sorts, the players, after pummelling Posta Rangers in Kisumu on Tuesday staged a go slow, refused to attend training and boarded a bus to Nairobi.

An official of the club who seemingly has become an activist rushed to social media (something she has become used to) and did all she knows best, to publicise what was happening at the club.

Now, as a Gor Mahia fan and follower, I feel so slighted by this official.

Why do I say so? one there is something called collective responsibility which I feel this official does not understand.

It is understandable for players to demand for what is their right, but it is wrong for an official to openly air our dirty linen in public.

When we lined up to elect the current officials, nobody was greater than the other, we elected a team to run Gor Mahia, but it seems some officials had other ideas going into office.

Granted, Ambrose Rachier has done immensely for the club, using his hard earned cash to pay up players and at some point even to sustain the club.

At some point, we had a paybill number on the club jerseys trying to raise money to pay players and run the club, that season we went ahead and won the league title, this official who is now hitting at how the club is being run did little or nothing to save the club from imminent collapse.

We accept, there is so much that needs to be changed in how our club is being run. We need to professionalise so many aspects in the club’s management.

But as a Gor Mahia family, we should not entertain an official who is airing our dirty linen in public. Its either she quits if she is not happy with the way things are being run at the club, or offer solutions.
